Partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Ontario

In order to strengthen cooperation on innovation topics and expand scientific relations, the long-standing partnership between Baden-Württemberg and the Canadian province of Ontario was renewed.

The long-standing partnership between the two countries was renewed.

On October 13, 2022, the Head of the State Chancellery, Dr. Florian Stegmann, together with the Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, and the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade in Ontario, H. E., Victor Fedeli, signed the new edition of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Canadian province of Ontario and Baden-Württemberg. "With the reissue of the partnership declaration, we are sending a political signal for strong transatlantic relations with an important trading partner and democratic value partner of our country," said Dr. Florian Stegmann.

Successful partnership for over 30 years

The aim of the agreement is to strengthen the long-standing partnership between the countries and to further expand scientific relations. Above all, the new agreement focuses on a shared commitment to building the economies of the future. "Together, we have the people and skills to drive economic growth," emphasized Canadian Minister Fedeli. The two countries also plan to intensify their exchange on topics such as migration and integration.

Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Hoffmeister-Kraut particularly emphasized the many things the two countries have in common: "Ontario and Baden-Württemberg are both strong economic engines with a high level of innovation in their countries. In this context, Canada is important for Baden-Württemberg not only in the hydrogen- and fuel cell-based transformation of mobility, but also in future issues of artificial intelligence and green technologies."

Driving joint activities forward

As part of Baden-Württemberg's partnership with Ontario, the state agency e-mobil BW is also working with Canadian partners on topics of sustainable and connected mobility and generating future mobility solutions. The visit of the Canadian delegation also included a personal meeting at the premises of the state agency.
