The aim of the project is to optimise the operating range by applying suitable strategies in the vehicle and between the vehicle and the infrastructure.Data linked together from various sources are provided to the user as a personalised and efficient mobility solution.

Motivation

Increasing the operating range of electric vehicles and the ability to reliably forecast remaining operating range while driving are two central technological challenges for electric mobility. The aim is to considerably improve the customer’s trust in electric vehicles and gain positive customer acceptance through routing systems optimised for energy and by providing reliable operating range information.

Goals and approach

The purpose of the Green Navigation project is to study suitable strategies in the vehicle as well as between the vehicle and the infrastructure to optimise operating range. This will make electric mobility efficient in terms of energy and resources. This goal will be achieved by planning routes optimised for energy and by taking into account numerous influencing factors, such as traffic data, charging columns, driving and non-driving times, or specific vehicle characteristics. Another focus here is on increasing operating range by adapting driving and operating strategies. Here the driver receives individualised recommendations and an assessment of the efficiency of his/her manner of driving in a graphical interface. The results of the research will be integrated in an electric vehicle prototype, and validated in real-life scenarios.

Innovations and prospects

Innovative services and applications for consumption forecasting and driver guidance will make it possible for vehicle manufacturers and suppliers to considerably improve operating range and the convenience of electric vehicles in terms of cost efficiency. This can play a role in accelerating the widespread market introduction of electric mobility, especially in vehicle fleets.
